Why To Follow A Gluten-Free Diet

In my post, I’m going to talk furthermore about a kind of protein known as Gluten which we can find especially in wheat, barley rye, and the derivatives of these grains. Gluten is always not problematic to everyone but it can affect those people whose immune system is very sensitive towards it. Such people are the patients of Celiac disease which is an autoimmune disease. It affects the intestine of a person who has a sensitivity to this protein particle. So to tackle such a problem a person should follow a gluten-free diet which is highly beneficial for celiac patients. A gluten-free diet and its benefits are numerous for people who are suffering from such disease.

Linear Confusion About Wheat And Gluten Allergy

But sometimes people fall in confusion when their body sends them the signs of such sensitivity when they are allergic to wheat only. Such a condition is known as wheat allergy. Both terms seem similar in a few aspects but they are not entirely similar.

Celiac vs Normal

Gluten allergy is a wider term in which a person must have to follow a completely Gluten-free diet and it”s a must for that person to live a healthy life. If the person does not follow a strict Gluten-free diet then it can prove fatal for that person. In my previous post, I have discussed almost all the negative effects of Celiac disease and the bad effects of Gluten in such patients. But in this post we will try to find out the main difference between wheat and gluten allergy and what should a person do in such cases. To avoid the unnecessary intake of gluten a person should have to be more alerted regarding his/her food or drinks and to avoid the intake of gluten a person must have to understand the food labeling which always presents in almost every food product. Label reading is a must thing for the people who are suffering from Celiac. but what if we say a person is having trouble with wheat only and it’s known as wheat allergy. Yes, you heard right.. the wheat allergy is the term which has it’s presence and effects side by side with Gluten allergy. So firstly we should have to know about it and the linear difference between both of them.

Through this post, I’m going to help you to find out a few facts and answers of a few questions like:-

 1. What is Wheat allergy?

 2. Difference between Wheat Allergy and Celiac disease.

 3. What is a Gluten-free diet?

 4. Which Gluten-free alternatives are available?

 5. Why go Gluten-free?

 6. Benefits of a Gluten-free diet.

What is Wheat Allergy?

When someone is allergic to wheat, then his body’s immune system overreacts to proteins in the wheat. If the person eats something made with wheat, the body starts to show it’s allergic reactions. Wheat allergy is more common in kids than adults, and many children seem to outgrow their wheat allergy over time. When a person with a wheat allergy has something with wheat in it then his body releases chemicals known as histamine. Such chemical can cause a number of symptoms such as :

*  wheezing

*  trouble breathing
*  coughing
*  belly pain
*  vomiting
*  hives
*  Itchy, watery or swollen eyes
*  red spots
*  swelling
*  diarrhea
*  a drop in blood pressure, causing loss of consciousness.

Allergic reactions to wheat can be varied. Sometimes the same person can react differently at different times. Some reactions can be mild and other reactions can be more severe and intense.

Difference Between Wheat and Celiac Disease

An allergy to wheat involves an allergic response to a protein in wheat. Gluten is not one of the wheat proteins that typically causes an allergic reaction. Gluten is involved in a condition called celiac disease.

It’s easy to get confused with celiac with wheat allergy, but they are different. Celiac disease does not cause an allergic reaction. With celiac, there is a different type of immune system response in the intestines. While people with wheat allergy can usually eat other grains, people with celiac cannot eat any food containing gluten, which is also found in other grains such as barley, rye, and sometimes oats. Thus we can say that Gluten is a wider term to be understood. So it’s a must for a celiac person to follow a complete and strict gluten-free diet. The person should check whatever he/she is eating and drinking by reading the food label.

What is the Gluten-Free Diet?

Many people believe that a Gluten-free diet is simply a quick way to lose weight. this, however, is not true. This specific diet is currently the only treatment for people with celiac disease. Since there are no pills, medical treatment, or therapies available, the only way to manage celiac disease is through a strict, 100% gluten-free diet. Such a diet excludes all products containing these ingredients. Those people who are following such a diet can still enjoy a healthy diet filled with fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, fish, beans, legumes, and most dairy products. These ingredients are naturally gluten-free.

Gluten-Free Alternatives

There are a wide variety of grains, flours, and starch alternatives that are naturally gluten-free and thus can be consumed by a person who is on a gluten-free diet.

Gluten-free grains alternatives:

Thankfully, there are many grains that are available which are naturally gluten-free so they are completely safe to eat by a person who is strictly following such a diet plan. These grains are:-

* Amaranth

* Brown, white and wild rice

* Buckwheat

* Corn

* Cornstarch

* Guar gum

* Millet

* Quinoa

* Sorghum

* Soy flour

* Teff

* Coconut flour

* Potato flour

* Gram flour

* Pea flour

Gluten free grains

And along with these grain, there are poultry products, dairy products, meats, fish, etc. are also available which are almost available and naturally gluten-free. So these products are also safe for a celiac person to include in his/her diet. However, nowadays we can find many more eatables specially labeled as gluten-free in many departmental stores and in E-commerce sites from where anyone can get many different kinds of flours, starches, and other condiments.

Why Go Gluten-Free?

A strict gluten-free diet is the only treatment available for celiac disease. So following a such diet is extremely important for a celiac person to live a healthy and happy life. This diet can help to alleviate the signs and symptoms of this disease. In order to maximize the health and nutritional benefits of a gluten-free diet, you should adopt a diet filled with a good variety of naturally gluten-free foods such as lots of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. Daily exercise is also necessary for managing a healthy lifestyle.

Benefits Of a Gluten-Free Diet?

For a celiac patient, there are a number of health benefits by following such a kind of diet. It not only sorts out their problematic situation due to celiac but it helps them in many ways. Here are some benefits:-

* It promotes their digestive health.

* This diet improves the cholesterol level.

* It increases the energy level in a person.

* Improves the health of people with irritable bowel syndrome.

* Brings improved awareness of foods that can have an adverse effect.
